Finally, it's happened to me

Yes, I am finally on broadband and driving the Mac at the same time! Now I just need a working digital camera, powered USB hub, Firefox and speakers!

My sister has been visiting with us for a week, and she left this morning.
We took our combined children to the Cairns Tropical Zoo, the beach at Yorkey's Knob (no, I did not make that name up!) the Kuranda Butterfly Sanctuary, and the movies ("Cars"). Ah, it was fun whilst it lasted!

I am knitting, albeit in a state of emotional fragility (see above) and tiredness bordering on exhaustion due to watching soccer games broadcast through the night at all kinds of odd hours.

Tomorrow I am hoping to go shopping on my own for a couple of hours and sort the last of the computer issues out for once and for all. Standby for my next blog entry entitled "Cooking with Gas"

Today is a meme cop out, tomorrow will have photos

Because I responded to a meme on a dear knit friend's blog, here is same meme posted on my blog

Please leave a one-word comment that you think best describes me--
it can only be one word long.  Then copy and paste this into your blog so I may leave a comment about you.

Being Lady link-a-lot

This blogger hits the nail on the head. Her blog is called "Motherhood is not for wimps: No answers. Just stories."

I am reminded that I am not alone, and these things I experience are normal, and best tackled with humour.

Blog expectations and etiquette

Bron posted a very interesting entry about comments and comment ettiquette.

I would like to add my opinion and as this is my blog, well, I'm gonna. :)

I love it when people comment.
I love that I had 2 bloglines subscribers at one point (whoever you were/are)
I love it even more when people are prepared to share a little of themselves back, and enter a dialogue about life and what is going on, knitting and otherwise. A sense of community is born. If you are very lucky, you might gain a friend or two by sharing a common interest.

I read as many blogs as time will allow, and I comment on only a few, and even then, it is not every entry. I used to do that, but not any more as when I started my own blog about a year ago, I gained a sense of community, and commenting felt in part like "me too-ing" or "notice me-ing". Now I have a blog address everyone is free to notice me as much as they want. Or not. :)

I love the inspiration I get from seeing other people's FOS, and whilst I believe in being positive and encouraging wherever possible, I actually RARELY think that the FO is a bunch of crap. I think that it is not my taste, I would not take the time to make that, or similar. You do gain a sense of other knitters' sense of style by looking at their FOs over time. I can't believe that I have the market corners on fashion/ stlye, and if you saw me most mornings (and yes, I do also sometimes leave the house looking like that) you would agree with me. But I digress.

You can always compliment the effort that goes into producing the garment, we all know how it feels to invest time and effort into our knitting projects. There is always that commonality present. That is always first on my list.

Next, you can always compliment other aspects about the FO whilst you may not like the overall result. On any given ocassion, it may be the speed with which the project was completed,  the neat finishing technique used, or the yarn, the colour etc that they used. Even if it is the sheer joy of finishing the brugger and regaining the use of the needles the UFO was on. That may be worth commenting on!  :)

I try very hard to not feel apologetic on my blog,  for my opinions because it is my space, but I have a little more to say on a related aspect.

I do regret that I have neglected this blog a little lately. My knitting has not been very quick, and this blog has morphed into a family diary/ photo album of the little events that otherwise may go unrecorded and eventually forgotton. I will not apologise for this. I enjoy the freedom that blogging allows and the chance to use full sentences and organise thoughts in a meaningful way that does not include children's animated characters, or repeating myself endlessly!

On the subject of the wee things in life, we offed to the park today, and while DS bugalugs investigated the icky pond

Favourite blog reads of recent times

Here are a few of my favourite and recent blog entries for your edification and reading pleasure:

Sharon's been feeling fine and Dante...

Bonne Marie (at March 28) has linked an article about knitting blogs and norming behaviour...

Stephanie has a non knitting (but small child) related post of considerable hilarity!

but when speaking of norming behaviours, the final word must go to the knitting curmudgeon - AMEN!

I have a new blog to add to my favourites - its that Crazy Aunt Purl - go for a great chatty breezy read!

what kind of knitter are you?

thanks to Maryse for this link

Knitting Guru
You appear to be a Knitting Guru. You love knitting
and do it all the time. While finishing a piece
is the plan, you still love the process, and
can't imagine a day going by without giving
some time to your yarn. Packing for vacation
involves leaving ample space for the stash and
supplies. It can be hard to tell where the yarn
ends and you begin.
