roadblock knitting - getting thru the WIPs

The plan for 07 - as it was 2 months ago

The following was drafted right at the cusp of me returning to work. It makes interesting reading, given the post I have put together regarding PS: Changing of the guard, and I include it now for your amusement:

(me, as at 18 February 2007...)

I am trying to not cast on anything new, and trying  not to buy any new yarn with which to justify casting on something new. So far sucessfully.

So, the plan for  February is to finish as much as possible, but to mostly work on the navy Hubster socks; Icarus; and finishing off the little boy's jumper I did last year. In March, I want to work mostly on the Laurel Hill jumper pattern. If I finish a fair percentage of that, I will allow myself to cast on something blue from stash. Does that sound just a tad too disciplined for me? Probably :)

I have decided to concentrate on the beautiful laceweight yarn and pattern from my Lace Swap pal  last year; the cabled jumper I cast on last year but the guage was wrong; and a grey tweed Ariann...

I have a great new (different) stashbuster project lined up for the April/ May Project Spectrum phase, the Pinwheel Jacket from Elann (thanks to Robbyn for pointing it out to me last year - that will be 2 out of 2 patterns she has predicted for DD Caitlyn). There's even a KAL! YAY!
And only a pair of yellow green Jaywalkers and the Cul-de-Sac vest to finish from the WIPs pile.

Saturday sky on a Sunday

A photo of today's sky, a day late; but anyways...

After 2 weeks of torrential, tropical rain, we have had hot hot sunshine from Thursday to Sunday, with only a little drizzly rain and a passing attempted thunderstorm this afternoon.

As tropical heat and rain means lots of garden growth, this weekend was spent in the garden, mowing, edging paths and trimming the bushes and shrubs. Plants, consider yourself attacked! (There is more, but this is supposed to be a knitting blog after all...)

I finished the Calmer socks for the Elderly Aunt whose feet need the socks more than I do!

There has been more sock activity and other knitting activity, but I'll have to show you another day because right now I have to go and cook some dinner; pack some lunches and do some ironing for "HIHO HIHO its off to work I go, on the morrow"

Knit from your stash be blowed

'Round these parts, it should be "knit from your table: Don't even reach into the stash until you get some of that yarn off the table, dammit!"

So when Project Spectrum starts this year, what have we on the coffee knitting table in blue white and grey?

1. A pair of unfinished (mumble mumble) Christmas socks for (insert hacking cough) the Hubster
2. A pair of unfinished white (mumble, mumble) birthday socks for the Hubster's elderly Aunt due January 07
3. Icarus (40 percent done)
4. Lace Panel Jumper, mostly done
5. My long suffering Jo Sharp jumper Laurel Hill

With two months to knit from this list, I can see that I may even finish a panel or two of the Laurel Hill pattern. The main problem with this pattern is that I have not yet memorised it. Once committed to memory, I'm sure that it will fly along, and I will wonder why it ever took me so long.

I have cast off the second pink sleeve. Looking good! I think I might knit the final sleeve for LPJ before knitting the pink front. Then we'll have a seaming party!

Ribby progress slowing

Ribby's sleeves are blocking. We'll see what other progress towards the finishing line this one makes in coming days:

Ribby speeding and crashing through

Two fronts and back are blocking.

One sleeve completed. Other sleeve is cast on, and I am up to the increases. I don't own a blocking board, and am too lazy to make one! Its all class, a pile of towels, all the way.

Thursday was a lovely day, with DH staying home sick from work and it was grey raining and cool outside - perfect knitting weather! We were all feeling a bit better that day. Improvements in our health seems to be slow going sometimes, but we are all improved somewhat.

Blurch!

Feeling most unwell today- just succumbing to the germ that Ian brought home from somewhere. We've all got it.

In roadblock knitting news, I have finished the other front, and have cast on for the 1st sleeve for my Ribby Cardi. Pics another time...

Introducing roadblock knitting

Sometimes I put projects aside without any firm plans to fix up what is wrong. I stumble, make a mistake, get distracted by something else (and there is always something else!) So I am hoping to discipline myself enough just one day a week to get these projects done. Remember the grey cabled jumper? Neither do I, hardly! Its still in the WIP photo album, I think...

So I decided to start with something  close to hand. Something which is not that much of a roadblock, just boring unending st st that is taking forever to complete. Of course,I am speaking of the Melody Shawl. Should be finished in a week or so. Okay, maybe I'm in denial. Maybe a few weeks...

But I did weigh the skein remains. 10 grams. That's not much, but we are talking laceweight here.
These are 2 beautiful stitch markers given to me by the multi talented Bron.

They say "Nat knits", and the other 2 not pictured here say "down" &  "under". The little heart makes me smile! They had some rustless blocking pins to keep them company on their journey. Thanks Bron! There is nothing like a bit of encouragement to spur a knitter on!
